*** NOTICE ***: Due to a fire in Marty's (Main) Book Room on the morning of August 9 there will be no sale in this room until further notice.

Children's Book Sale
The Children's Room has moved to the portable formerly occupied by the Jewish Community Center next to the soccer field. It is entirely filled with children's books and toys. You'll find picture books, school age fiction and non-fiction, award winners, non-English titles, CDs and DVDs, and books for parents and teachers, most for 50 cents or $1. This room and the Bargain Room open at 10 am on Saturday. Strollers are welcome in the Children's Room at any time.

Bargain Books in K-7
The Bargain Room is located in Rooms K-7 and K-6 of the Cubberley main campus, right next to the tennis courts. Paperbacks are 50 cents, hardcovers are $1, and children's books are just 25 cents each. The room also contains many LP records and 78s at $1 each. On Sunday, the room opens at 11 am and all prices are half off. Save even more on Sundays by buying grocery bags from us for $5 each and stuffing them with any items in the room. Buy 4 bags and get the 5th one FREE!

Library Holiday Closings
All branches of the Palo Alto Library will be closed December 24-26 for the Christmas holiday and again on December 31 through January 2 2011 for the New Year's holiday. The College Terrace Library will also be closed December 27 through December 30 (so will be closed from December 24 through January 2 2011).

Non-Profit Book Giveaway
Non-profit organizations, schools and teachers that need FREE books should come to the Bargain Room this month from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday, December 12. Please bring your own grocery bags to put books into. More information.

December Sale Notes

THERE IS NO "MAIN" SALE AGAIN THIS MONTH.... Our apologies and thanks for your continued patience. We have a new building in place and the finishing touches are being applied but there is just not enough time to get set up for a sale. We plan on being back up to full speed for the January sale (see details below).

The Bargain Room and Children's Room will both be open regular hours (Sat 10-4; Sun 11-4) for the December Sale, and we will have a selection of Ephemera for sale in front of the new building (Sat 9am-4pm Sun 11am-4pm). There will be books and other Winter Holiday material available for sale in all three sales.

New Building Update
Our Main Room was damaged by fire on August 9. The building has been replaced and is in the final stages of completion. Starting next week we will begin restoring the shelving and then moving books into the room. We will be back to full operation for the January 8-9 Sale. For latest updates please visit the FOPAL Web Site.

Members-Early Sale Now Set For February
The annual Members-Early sale, which was to be held in November, had been postponed and is now set for February 12. Full details will be in our next newsletter.

We're Still Accepting Donations!
Donations are still being accepted at the Children's Room building which we call "The Annex" but just as soon as we can occupy the new building we will again be accepting donations in the Main Room. The "Annex" is the portable building in located next to the main Soccer field and between Greendell School and the Pavilion. Look for the big green "Friends" sign. There is usually a volunteer manning a table in front of the building in the afternoon, or donations can be left on the table if it's not raining. Donation receipts are available on the table. We'll also arrange pickup of large donations or if you are unable to bring your books to us.

Bargain Room Bag Sale on Sunday
On Sunday the Bargain Room features our popular "bag sale". For $5.00 you purchase a large shopping bag from our cashier and then you can fill it up with anything inside the Bargain Room. We encourage creative bag packing to maximize value. For every 4 bags you buy, you get an additional bag FREE! If you don't want to buy a whole bag, all items are 50% off our Saturday prices - so hardback books and media are only 50 cents, softcover books only 25 cents.

One-Liners
The Annual Members-Early Sale has now been set for February 12. Details will be published in future newsletters and will also be available on the web site.... The next "Better Book Bonanza" will also be in February. Don't miss it!.... Remember, we do accept donations during the sale - drop off a few and pick up some new ones.... If you sell on eBay you can donate a portion of your sale to FOPAL! We're now listed as one of the charities under "eBay Giving Works". Please contact us if you need more information.

NEW! Recycle Your Used Packing Materials At FOPAL

Looking for a place to recycle those packing materials? FOPAL can use them! As our online sales have grown we would be happy to accept your used bubble mailers, small boxes, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, and those bags of air and we'll reuse them. We cannot use large boxes or styrofoam blocks, however.

Think Ecologically! - Bring or Donate Your Own Bags

Due to the increasing reuse of grocery and other bags, we tend to run short at our sales and encourage you to bring your own cloth tote or paper bags to the sale. If you have any extra grocery bags in good condition please bring them for your purchases at the sale. We would also gladly accept any extra bags you wish to donate.

Support Palo Alto's Libraries While You Shop
By shopping at Kepler's Books in Menlo Park and Amazon.com, a percentage of your purchase price can help the Palo Alto Libraries at no cost to you. At Kepler's, just mention to the cashier that you want to support the Friends of the Palo Alto Library. For Amazon.com, always start your shopping session by clicking here or on the Amazon link on the top right of any of our web pages at www.friendspaloaltolib.org. Virtually all purchases you make at Amazon are eligible, not just books. Over the years, we've raised thousands of dollars to help our libraries through these programs.
